In 2005, the Bangladesh government decided to connect (Purbachal) the district of Narayanganj, and Gazipur through a broad expressway.
Thus, the government started to build a 12.5 km long and 235 ft wide expressway. This 8-lane expressway came to be known as “Purbachal 300 FT Road”.
Sheikh Hasina Sarani
Sheikh Hasina Sarani, previously known as Purbachal Expressway, underwent a renaming ceremony on November 14, 2023, as a tribute to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her outstanding contributions to Bangladesh’s progress.
This change symbolizes gratitude for her leadership and dedication to infrastructure development.
The opening of Sheikh Hasina Sarani marks a significant milestone, emphasizing connectivity and progress under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Construction Body and Budgets
The construction of the Purbachal Expressway started in the hands of RAJUK in 2005.
However, since 2018, Bangladesh Army has taken over the construction project of this broad roadway.
This expressway was initially thought to be completed within the budget of 5287 crore BDT. But, as of right now, it took about 10,230 crore BDT to complete this 235 ft wide expressway.
Specific Details on Purbachal 300FT Road
As this expressway connects Kuril Bisshoroad and Kanchan Bridge, it has 2 bridges that span across Tongi Khal and Balu river. Plus, this particular expressway has 5 intersections as well.
Moreover, there are multiple walkways, bridges, canals, foot overbridges, sluice gates, sewer lines, and bus stops included in the project of this expressway construction.
